Summer holidays are the well-deserved break from school after a long year. For those of us living on the continent, the summer holidays are about the start or for some they have already started. Southern European countries tend to have longer summer holidays lasting up to 12 weeks! France has 8 weeks holiday and most UK schools have around 6-8 weeks.
It is important for children to have a break from school and routine during this time and parents spend much time planning a balance of activities and holidays for the summer break. Summer camps have become more popular across Europe as something fun and educational for children to do during their summer holidays. The idea behind summer camps in general is that they allow children to enjoy different experiences and learn skills and other subjects in a less structured way than at school.
Many summer camps have a sports focus, either a mixture of sports or concentrating on a sport that the child already practices in order to practice more intensively during the summer break. Others have a music/arts focus and there is an increasing amount of choice for children and parents during the summer break.
Because of our location, our choice of activities and subjects was decided for us to a certain extent! Based in France, we are in the perfect location for children and teenagers to learn and improve their French through fun lessons and great activities. It is important for all language learners to learn and experience the language in context. This is especially important for children and teenagers as often they don’t see the point of learning a language. Spending time in France makes them realise why it is important to speak another language and at our summer camp, they meet French people and understand that if they can speak French, this opens up a whole new world to them. Aside from being in France and therefore providing the perfect environment to speak French, Morzine is also a sports lover’s paradise! From the outdoor-indoor aquatic centre, the new skatepark to the mountain biking infrastructure, white-water rafting on nearby rivers, hiking, climbing, summer sledging, adventure parks and much much more, there is certainly never a dull moment here!
Our ‘Family Camp’ is one of our most popular options for parents and children to study with us during the summer season, but it’s also the option that we get asked the most questions about! So we thought we’d put together a quick blog for the ‘Frequently Asked Questions’ and…
