Morzine is part of one of the largest ski areas in Europe, even the world, called the Portes du Soleil. The Portes du Soleil ski area spans 12 resorts and 2 countries, 286 ski slopes , 30 snowparks and 99 mountain restaurants. It is the world’s oldest cross-border ski area.
Morzine has access to 2 large parts of the Portes du Soleil offering excellent skiing and snowboarding for all abilities. The Morzine-Les Gets ski area offers tree-lined pistes with fabulous views of Mont Blanc. From the cruisy blues between Morzine and Les Gets to the more challenging slopes of Chamossière and Nyon, this area is an under-estimated gem. On a snowy day or a white-out, this is the area to head for as you can see where you are going thanks to the trees. Often this side of the mountain is quieter too, so you can find fresh tracks on powder days and spend less time queueing for the ski lifts.
On the other side of Morzine, you can head up one of the cable-cars heading up to the other side of the Portes du Soleil via Avoriaz. Head up to Avoriaz and stay in the Avoriaz area to enjoy the snow-parks, half-pipes, snow-cross or regular pistes….or head through Avoriaz over to Les Crosets, Champoussin and Champéry on the Swiss side or over to Linga. Each area has its own charms, a different type of piste, different snowparks, different views, different places to stop for a hot chocolate, a vin chaud or lunch.
Students on our French and Ski or French and Snowboard courses get to ski all morning before heading into Alpine French School for afternoon French lessons at 15h leaving almost a whole day everyday for fun on the pistes.
