WINTER

Morzine is a picturesque traditional mountain town which is also a ski resort in the winter and a summer holiday resort in the summer months offering a huge array of sports.  A true Savoyard town which is kept very traditional through a strict planning regime. The vibrant and charming town offers great facilities including restaurants, cafés and wine-bars, cinemas, an indoor-outdoor swimming pool complex, tennis courts, an ice-rink and too many activities to name!

Morzine is a ski resort in the winter months (December – April) so it can be as cold as -10° but we get a lot of sunshine too and the mountain sun is very warming!  We don’t get a lot of grey drizzly days but it does snow regularly in the winter which makes the town look very pretty.

The Winter season in Morzine is truly magical. For the majority of the season, the snow coats the town in a blanket of white and from day to night it always feels like Christmas. Skiing is guaranteed, even at the start and end of the season, thanks to easy access to the higher resort of Avoriaz. When you’re not spending time enjoying the slopes or at our lovely school learning French, you can explore what the town of Morzine has to offer, and it’s sure that there is something for everyone in Morzine. With ski slalom races, live music festivals, outdoor ice skating, a weekly market and as much cheese as you could possibly eat – we know you’ll enjoy your stay in this winter wonderland. Monday/Lundi:

• Open Mic Night at Les Rhodos bar

• Quiz night at Le Local

Tuesday/Mardi:

• Descente aux Flambeaux – The ski instructors of ESF descend the main Pleney piste in Morzine, lit only by torches. A traditional and spectacular event not to be missed, the Office du Tourisme offers vin chaud (hot wine) to try.

Wednesday/Mercredi:

• Opening of the Pistes with the pisteurs – a unique experience to climb the pistes in a piste basher before the slopes open to the general public. Start your day early at 7.30/8am and appreciate the hard work that goes into maintaining this beautiful resort!

• Hockey Matches – On a Wednesday and Saturday the local Ice Hockey team ‘Les Pingouins’ play at the Palais du Sport. Locals and tourists go along to cheer on the team and there’s a great atmosphere.  (Dates depending on match schedule)

• BlaBla Soireé @ Le Bec Jaune TBC
