Interview with some of our students studying French in France with Alpine French School

Cheryl took one of our intensive French courses back in May. She told us what she thought of the course and a bit of her background with regards to learning French.

Why are you learning French?

I am learning French because I live in Morzine all year round and believe that learning the language is key to living in France long-term.

Did you learn French at school?

I ‘learnt’ French at GCSE, but the lessons weren’t very good and I think I only got a D!

Why did you choose Alpine French School?

I chose Alpine French School because they can complete all the paperwork for the training budget from the French government that I am entitled to as I work in France, for a French company.

Did you enjoy your course?

I really enjoyed my course. I did the Intensive course with three others. I felt this size class was perfect for learning. The content and structure of the course was excellent.

Do you think your French has improved?

Yes. We were able to take lots of notes and got lots of worksheets with Verb tables and so on, which are really handy to refer back to.

Have you used the French you learnt during the course?

I am trying to use it as much as possible. I need to practice the Future Simple more though!

What’s your favourite French word or phrase?

“Voila” and

“Oh la la!”

Do you feel more confident talking in French?

Yes definitely, it was good to be able to practice in the ‘safe’ environment of the classroom!

What do you like about the weekly group/intensive course?

The course was good as it made me speak French A LOT! You really were immersed in the language for the week.

Would you like to have more lessons with Alpine French School?

Yes, I am already planning to.

And an interview with another student, Faye:

Why are you learning French?

Having moved here 2 years ago it has always been on the agenda, I want to be able to talk confidently to sort things like bills, internet and car trouble out, its also becoming important in my job where we are increasingly speaking with French transfer operators.

Did you learn French at school?

Yes, I did GCSE French.

Why did you choose Alpine French School?

They have a good reputation around the town, lots of courses on offer and also they helped with working out and utilizing the available budgets.

Are you enjoying/did you enjoy your course?

I really enjoyed the course, it worked as a good refresher, plus helping learn new more about speaking in the past tense.

Do you think your French has improved?

Yes definitely whilst doing the course I was also more motivated to take up study outside of the classroom, you also get some homework so you are generally thinking and speaking more French.

Have you used the French you learnt during the course?

Yes I have actually – whilst visiting my parents who also live in the south I found I spoke with some of their French speaking friends, a lot more confidently that I had previously.

What’s your favorite French word or phrase?

Bonne chance!

Do you feel more confident talking in French?

Yes, I think when you are encouraged to talk – even if you are making some errors it feels less intimidating when you go to speak in ‘real life’!

Would you like to have more lessons with Alpine French School?

As above….! Yes!
