Send an emailBook NowNovember in Chamonix is a month of transition. The summer crowds have disappeared, the valley is getting ready for winter, and the first festive preparations are starting to appear. But quieter doesn’t mean boring! There are still plenty of things to see, do and discover around the valley.
At Alpine French School, we love being part of the local community. So, here’s our monthly guide to what’s happening in Chamonix, from local events and French traditions to ways of enjoying life in the valley.
There are several ways to get out and enjoy Chamonix in November:
For more events and updates, keep an eye on the official Chamonix events calendar.
On 11 November, France celebrates l’Armistice, marking the end of the First World War in 1918. It is a national public holiday, with commemorations taking place across the country, including in Chamonix. It’s a great opportunity to learn a little more about French history and culture.
French language tip: The word férié means public holiday. So, if someone tells you that a day is férié, you know that many businesses and services may be closed!
It’s never too early to start thinking about Christmas! From 16 December, Chamonix’s Christmas village will bring festive decorations, wooden chalets and seasonal treats to Place du Mont-Blanc. There will also be an outdoor ice rink. It’s a lovely time to enjoy the atmosphere, sample some French Christmas specialities and practise your French with local traders.
At Alpine French School, we believe learning French is about more than grammar and vocabulary. It’s about feeling at home, meeting people and becoming part of the local community.
Whether you’re new to Chamonix, planning to spend the winter season here or simply want to feel more confident speaking French in everyday situations, our French courses in Chamonix can help you make the most of life in the valley.
Our local tip: Don’t be afraid to start a conversation in French, even if you only know a few words. A simple Bonjour, comment ça va ? is always a good place to start!
We’ll be back next soon with more local events, seasonal recommendations and French language tips.
À bientôt à Chamonix!
