This is a “big” question which means different things to different people.
For those of you who live in France, imagine being able to chat to your neighbour without feeling embarrassed or searching for words, or maybe you feel awkward at the school gates and aren’t able to talk to the teachers properly. Maybe you would love to be able to pick up the phone in French; to ask for information, sort out a phone contract, call and complain about something. Or maybe you’d simply like to be able to order correctly in a shop or restaurant. If you live in France, not speaking French is a handicap on a daily basis. Your quality of life is lowered and your social circle narrowed, you could be missing out on so much that you aren’t even aware of….. With speaking French comes improving your knowledge of France and its culture.
For those of your living overseas, maybe you need to use French in your job, maybe you just want to be able to contribute in your conversation class more effectively or perhaps you would like to be able to speak French when you travel so that you can get more out of your holidays.
If you are reading this, you are probably someone who is interested in learning French and perhaps you are already taking lessons. If so, then this is already a step in the right direction; wanting to learn to speak French is the first step. Second is finding a way to fit it into your everyday life so that it becomes a part of your daily routine. Learning a language takes commitment, but just think how it would improve your life!
