CONVERSATION :

One of our most popular with the locals!

These workshops will definitely help you:

get rid of bad habits that you might have picked up along the way
put in place correct French for repetitive forms of language and therefore the most useful forms to make yourself understood!
reinforce everything that you learn in class and make it all worth the effort !
give a huge boost to your confidence to speak French

To provide some variety and to ensure that students benefit fully from these workshops, we offer several French conversation classes which target different aspects of conversation skills:

‘Spontaneous Conversation’= real life chit-chat:
This is a great way to get used to having a chat, just like you would do with friends and neighbours in your own language, talking about yourself or any topic that naturally comes up in conversation. Excellent exercise as you practice ‘non-thinking’ French.

‘Guided Conversation’ = conversation with a topic
Such a powerful tool to expand your French, express ideas, communicate about all sorts of topics, force yourself to use appropriate structures.

‘Speaking in situation‘ = real life situation

Specific conversation for specific situation such as: ‘At the shop’, ”Buying clothes and shoes’, ‘ski lifts/passes/lessons/information’, ‘asking and understanding directions’, ‘At the bank’, ‘At the post-office’, ‘on the phone’ etc…

COMPREHENSION (listening)

It’s all very well to want to speak a language but if you don’t understand the person you’re trying to interact with, then you have a serious problem!
This is a skill that must be practiced and improved without fail as it is where learning a language all starts and expands to higher levels, just like kids do.
The other magical effect is that it will help you to express yourself in correct French because what you hear in-prints on your brain subconsciously!
Students tend to underestimate the importance of practicing their listening skills, don’t be one of them…

We offer 2 groups differentiated by levels :

Beginners – low intermediate
High Intermediate – advanced

Practice with authentic French exercises, games, sketches, film trailers, film extracts, radio programmes, etc… Seize the opportunity to improve this valuable and underestimated skill!

PRONUNCIATION

However you look at it, you will always be better understood with bad French but good pronunciation rather than good French but bad pronunciation! It is such a shame to learn French and do your best, but to fail because of pronunciation.

How many times do we hear: ‘Well, I was close enough! How could they not understand? They could have made an effort to understand me! I would have!‘ You have to remember that French people are not used to hearing their language spoken with an accent like English speakers do for example as English is spoken all over the world with all over the world accents…

With a solid pronunciation base, you will feel confident and understand French people better because without being aware of it, you expect to hear words the way you pronounce them… So you might as well say them right, otherwise you won’t be able to recognise them when you hear them.

We have 2 options to help you with your pronunciation:

Soft version: reading aloud (combined with reading comprehension), repeating, etc…
Boot camp: intensive repetition of different sounds in different words, fun games… Perfect to break through and get it right once and for all!

You will be given tips on how to use your instrument (your mouth!) and play the right tune! And how to integrate the ‘liaison’ sounds which seem to give people a hard time…

VOCABULARY

‘In situation vocabulary’ = How do I say that? What could I say then?
How many times a day do you find yourself in a situation when you ask yourself those questions?! ‘Oh! I wish I could say that, I wish I could argue in French, I wish I could say how much I appeciate, I wish I had the right words,’.. Come and join this workshop and the teacher will answer all those questions and get you to say them well and in the most appropriate manner. (Not recommended for high intermediate and advanced levels)

‘Topical vocabulary‘ = fully covering areas of vocabulary
For example: ‘food’, ‘town’, ‘holidays’, ‘weather’, ‘sports’,

WRITING

Join this workshop to improve your writing skills in French and feel confident to write emails, letters and messages.

You will be able to bring your own personal documents that you need to answer or people you need to write to.

TRANSLATION

Translating is what your brain does constantly. However translation is a trap as it doesn’t work even for very simple language!

We have specific workshops for English speakers which will get you to work on correctly translating from English to French. Learn to avoid the reflex of bad translating process and make your life easier in understanding how to manipulate languages to your advantage.
