Learn French in France

So you are thinking about learning French, or maybe you have already been taking French classes in your home country?  And now you want to learn French in France but don’t know where to start?  This is a great decision if you really want to improve your French :)

To be immersed in French from the moment you get up until the moment you go to sleep is a sure-fire way to make really great progress towards your goals.  How you choose your course and your accommodation is really important in your choice when choosing French courses in France.  Ideally, you need to study intensively by taking for example a French Intensive Course which means studying 3 or more hours per day.  On top of the classroom time, there is often personal work to do outside of the classroom; optional or compulsory but if you take the time to study as hard as you can and do all of the extra work that is set then this will really benefit you.

Typical Day

A typical day at Alpine French School for example if you decide to come and Learn French with us is often different to at other language schools as we offer a wide range of amazing activities which is one of the things that attracts people to our school.  So in the morning, students head off to enjoy activities such as skiing in the winter or adventure activities such as hiking, mountain biking, climbing or water-sports in the summer.  If you take part in organised activities, these are run by French guides to get you using French outside of the classroom too! After grabbing a quick bite to eat, students head into their intensive course at 14h or 15h depending on the season for 3 hours of intensive French classes.  After the French classes end, students head back to their accommodation or stay in the town centre for dinner.  After dinner is time for a little more study before heading to bed to hopefully dream in French!

Being immersed in French 24 hours per day is hard work but extremely rewarding.  Students that make the most effort definitely make the most progress.  Speak to as many people as possible, try and ask questions in French even if you aren’t sure of every word, just concentrate on getting your point across and don’t worry about making a few mistakes.

When choosing from french courses in France, one of the things you have to consider is what accommodation to choose.  This can make a big difference to your experience and your immersion.  Choose to live with a French host family at least for part of your stay to speak a maximum of French and really experience French culture.  At Alpine French School, we also offer another great choice: apartments shared with other students and a teacher.  The teacher will encourage French conversation throughout the day, help with homework, answer any questions and share their knowledge of French culture as a host family would.
