What is there to do in Morzine for Christmas?

 

If you are visiting Morzine for the Christmas holidays, you might be wondering what there is to do in Morzine for Christmas.

 

Firstly, the Christmas lights are switched on in early December, giving the resort a magical feel with all of the lights twinkling against the white snow underfoot. Ski resorts often have a Christmassy feel for most of the winter with the snow, Christmas trees, street decorations and twinkly lights but especially so at Christmas.

 

For children and those of you liking to get into the Christmas spirit, Morzine and Les Gets organise many Christmas events. In Les Gets, near the lake, there is a magical Christmas village where santa’s elves lead the children up to see Santa from afar.

 

Throughout the Christmas period from 22nd December 2014, Morzine organises many events including…..on Christmas eve, watch the arrival of Father Christmas at the tourist office square. He usually arrives on the outdoor ice-rink from high and there is a show for young and old to watch as he makes his arrival.

 

The garden centre on the edge of Morzine, Delbard/Jardiflore has an impressive for Christmas shop selling all the decorations you will need to give your house or holiday chalet a Christmas feel. Santa also comes to visit the garden centre before Christmas, check with the shop for dates!

 

For those wanting to celebrate Christmas with a drink or two in one of Morzine’s many bars, Christmas eve is a busy night on the town. From après-ski until the early hours of Christmas day, Morzine celebrates the arrival of Christmas with entertainment in the town centre and revellers in the bars!

 

For the keen skiers and snowboarders amongst you, Christmas Day tends to be quiet on the slopes early in the day with many people choosing to spend the day with family in their chalet enjoying the traditional Christmas Day activities of eating, drinking and present opening!

 

 

If you are in Morzine in the lead-up to Christmas and fancy a day-trip, then the Montreux Christmas markets are well worth a visit. Just over an hour’s drive from Morzine, the town is filled with market stalls, entertainment and even a big wheel for young and old to enjoy. The town is transformed into a winter wonderland with a festive feel. For the children amongst you, there is even Santa’s village up in the mountains that you can get the train up to.
