Is there much snow in Morzine?

This year, this has been the hot topic of conversation so far with a warm start to the season across all of Europe. Following a cold and snowy late November, warmer temperatures and glorious sunny days meant that the snow didn’t stay in the town of Morzine itself and we enjoyed a sunny beautiful December!

Luckily Morzine is actually officially called Morzine-Avoriaz because there are 2 parts to the town: Morzine (1000 metres altitude) and Avoriaz (1800 metres altitude). In Avoriaz, world-class snow-making facilities and it’s higher altitude and micro-geographical situation make it a snow-sure resort. Despite the lack of early season snow, the skiing has been better than expected with nearly all of the pistes open and in decent condition. Our students taking our Intensive French Courses + Ski/Snowboard have all been skiing in Avoriaz for the past 2 weeks and loving it!

And the warm sunny spell has now come to an end. It is currently snowing heavily in Morzine and in Avoriaz and this weather is set to stay for the next week at least! There is forecast to be well over a metre of fresh snowfall in the next 5 days and it looks like there will be more to come after that too!

So for our students booked on our Intensive French Courses + Ski/Snowboard in January, you are in for a real treat and some great skiing and snowboarding conditions! Our student accommodation is located less than 10 minutes walk from the nearest ski lift and if that’s too far for you, there is a free ski shuttle bus that takes less than 5 minutes. Alpine French School itself is located right in the centre of Morzine opposite the tourist office, just a few minutes walk from the ski-lifts and is surrounded by cafés, bars, restaurants and shops.
