Your child is ready for Summer Camp but are you?

Sending your child on his first Summer Camp is a big step. Maybe you think it will be good for her confidence, maybe you think he will benefit from a new challenge in a fresh environment, maybe you think she needs to improve her French for a forthcoming exam! There are many reasons for which we think about sending our children away to Summer Camp and this is a more popular idea in some cultures and countries than others.

However, maybe it is your child asking to go on a Summer Camp and it is you who isn’t sure if they are ready….or if you are ready! Sending a child away alone to a different country can be a daunting prospect for the parents and sometimes for the child too. Alpine French School try and provide very complete pre-arrival information to ensure that the pre-camp preparations go as smoothly as possible and we are always at the end of the phone to answer any questions parents may have. Our camp was founded by the director of our school who is a parent herself and therefore understands the importance of being entrusted with other people’s precious children! We try and provide an abundance of information on our website to inform and reassure parents thinking of booking a summer camp.

Fortunately in France, our job is made slightly easier because running children’s summer camps is seen as a true profession and it is a very popular thing to do for French children to attend summer camps from a young age. All camps are run by Camp Directors who are qualified in all aspects of Camp management, pastoral care, junior well-being, and how to encourage campers to flourish during their time at camp. They are also first-aid trained and they study junior psychology to ensure that they understand how to manage junior groups and the inevitable emotions involved.

If you are still hesitant about sending your son or daughter to a French Summer Camp, how about considering finding a friend of theirs who they could travel with and stay with at the camp. This is reassuring for each junior and each set of parents!

Another option that we offer at Alpine French School is a Family Summer Camp, but don’t worry, you don’t have to take part in the camp too…unless you want to! We offer a day camp option from 9h-17h30 where you drop off your children in the morning and collect them late afternoon so that they can spend the late afternoon and evening with you and then return to the camp the following morning. We can arrange family accommodation near to the camp either in a self-catered or catered family room, a hotel or a private apartment or chalet. This is an increasingly popular option and this is open for 6-18 year old children. The other advantage of this option is that as a parent, you can either work remotely if necessary and possible, improve your own language skills at our adult school, try out some mountain activities for yourself or simply relax in the mountain air, sunbathe at the local mountain lakes and sample French cuisine! A perfect way to tailor-make a holiday for all the family!
