Morzine is better known as a ski resort in the winter but it is also a great place for families in the summer! The resort is especially well known for its outdoor activities and beautiful mountain scenery and one of its main advantages is its easy access from the UK and Geneva airport. So what kind of things are there to do? Here is our top 10…
Morzine has a great indoor-outdoor swimming pool complex with a 50m pool which is popular with serious swimmers and triathletes, a children’s pool, a waterslide, beach volleyball courts, sunbathing terraces and lawns plus a bouncy castle and a slide pool for younger kids. Inside, there is a 25m pool, another children’s pool and a toddler’s pool as well as a spa area. Recently modernised, this is a great place to spend a sunny day!
The lake just above the village of Montriond is 1.5km in length and a stunning turquoise colour. Framed by high mountain cliffs, the lake has a spectacular backdrop. Enjoy a swim in the smaller swimming lake or try Stand Up Paddle Boarding or canoeing in the large lake. There is also a playground, several restaurants and of course lots of grassy areas to picnic and chill out.
Morzine has a large tennis club in the Parc des Derêches with over 10 tennis courts that you can either hire or book a private lesson with an instructor. The tennis club café is also a great place to grab a coffee and a bite to eat with very friendly owners.
Morzine has a new skatepark, built in 2015 with lots of help from local skaters in the design. In the morning the skatepark is commonly frequented by younger children having a go on their bikes, scooters and skateboards. Later in the day, the more serious skateboarders appear to show off their tricks!
Morzine boasts 2 treetop adventure courses, one in the Parc des Derêches and one above Nyon. Both offer several levels for different ages from 3 years upwards.
Again in the Parc des Derêches, Morzine has a large equestrian centre offering horse-riding for all levels including pony rides and birthday parties for young children from 3 years.
At the foot of the Pléney slopes, this summer sledging track is accessed by a chairlift that transports you and your sledges to the top of the track. There are 2 sledge tracks, one ‘technical’ and one regular so take your pick and remember to brake where the signs tell you too! From 3 year olds and upwards accompanied by an adult.
Les Gets has a great lake with a water-slide, lifeguard, roped off swimming areas and numerous activities surrounding the lake such as playgrounds, basketball courts, a treetop adventure park and a café-restaurant.
Of course children as well as adults enjoy exploring the mountains on foot! Take a cable car up to the summit and enjoy a mountain hike through the mountain trails and you will see stunning meadows, views and there are also some impressive waterfalls such as the Cascade de Nyon
Mountain Biking is one of the many mountain activities that you can enjoy in Morzine in the summer months. Many of the cable-cars and chairlifts open to take you and your bike to the top of the mountains so that you can enjoy the mountain trails without all the effort of pedalling all the way to the top. There are many mountain biking shops in Morzine where you can hire all the gear and the tourist office have maps of all of the trails.
In addition to all of this in and around Morzine itself, there are also many great day trips in the area such as Annecy, Geneva, Thonon, Lake Geneva, Evian, Yvoire and much more!
