How to get safely to Morzine: your easy travel guide

Why visit Morzine and how easy it is to reach?

Morzine is a beautiful Alpine village in southeastern France, just a short distance from Switzerland, especially Geneva. Its location makes it one of the most accessible mountain destinations in the Alps. The village is safe, welcoming, and easy to explore, whether you’re traveling solo, with family, or in a group. You’ll find several reliable transport options, from buses and trains to airport shuttles and private transfers.

From Geneva

Geneva (Switzerland) is the most popular gateway for travelers heading to Morzine — and it’s conveniently close.

✈️ By plane (Geneva International Airport – GVA)

If you’re arriving from abroad, Geneva Airport is usually your best choice. Airport transfers to Morzine are available:

  • Shared shuttle: around €25–€30 one-way per person, with comfortable minibus service from the airport to Morzine.
  • Private transfer: approximately €160–€250 one-way for a car or van, ideal for families or groups with luggage and ski equipment.

Travel time: around 1h15–1h45 depending on traffic conditions.

These options deliver you right into the center of Morzine, making arrival smooth and stress‑free.

🚆 Train + bus from Geneva

If you prefer public transport:

  • Take a train from Geneva to a nearby town like Cluses or Thonon‑les‑Bains, then switch to a regional bus that continues up the valley to Morzine.
  • This combination is scenic and practical, especially if you enjoy traveling by train.

🚌 Direct buses from Geneva

There are also regular bus services linking Geneva and Morzine, departing conveniently from right next to Geneva train station, making connections easy for those arriving by train.

  • Bus prices: from around €18–€29 one-way when booked in advance.
  • Travel time: roughly 1h30–1h45 for the ~43–60 km journey between Geneva and Morzine.
  • Buses may depart several times daily, especially during winter or peak seasons, and usually stop at Morzine’s central bus station.

This can be a budget-friendly option if you’re comfortable with scheduled timetables and street-to-street travel, and it makes a seamless connection for train travelers thanks to the bus station’s location next to the train platforms.

From Thonon‑les‑Bains

Another easy way to get to Morzine — especially if you’re coming by train or regional bus from France or Switzerland — is via Thonon‑les‑Bains.

  • Regional bus from Thonon‑les‑Bains to Morzine (line Y91): from about €5–€8 one‑way
  • Travel time: around 50–55 minutes depending on traffic and stops.
  • By car or taxi, the journey is shorter — typically 30–40 minutes for the roughly ~32–34 km route.

This option is especially convenient if you arrive by train to Thonon‑les‑Bains station and want a direct local connection up the valley. The buses run year‑round, but schedules vary by season.

Why Morzine’s location is a real advantage

🌍 Close to Switzerland – Morzine is just over an hour from Geneva, meaning you can land in Switzerland and be in the French Alps in no time.

🚍 Good public transport links – buses and shuttles run regularly both from international points like the airport and from regional hubs like Thonon or Cluses.

🏡 Safe and easy to navigate – the village and surrounding region have well‑maintained roads and clear signage, and the transport options are reliable and secure year‑round.
