Morzine is based in the Portes du Soleil ski area, the largest ski area in France!
Spanning France and Switzerland, the ski area boasts 650km of pistes. From Morzine, you have 2 ski areas on your doorstep, both part of the Portes du Soleil. If you take the Pléney cable-car, you can access the Morzine-Les Gets ski area. If you take the Super Morzine cable-car, you will be transported into the Avoriaz ski-area from which you can ski over to numerous resorts in both France and Switzerland such as Les Crosets, Morgins, Châtel, Champéry, Champoussin and Torgon. There are 12 resorts in the Portes du Soleil and 21 snowparks/ski-cross/boarder-cross areas.
There is a circular ski tour of the Portes du Soleil starting and finishing in Avoriaz. Allow a full day and make sure you start out with fresh legs! But this is a great way to get to know the whole ski area and you can then choose to return to sectors that you liked the look of another day. There is a total of 196 ski-lifts in the Portes du Soleil area, which are always being modernised and updated between ski-seasons. In the last 5 years, we have seen Morzine spend millions of euros on updating its ski-lifts to ensure speedy comfortable access to the slopes.
Of course, lunch in a mountain restaurant is a must and luckily there are restaurants galore in the Portes du Soleil area. From snack-bars to traditional restaurants there is something for everyone and with a total of 90 restaurants, you definitely won’t go hungry!
