French + Yoga: new for 2015!

Sometimes learning a new language can be a little bit daunting and can use up a lot of mental energy. Alpine French School thought it would be a great idea to combine the intellectual challenge of learning a new language with the inspiring and calming practice of yoga, all in our beautiful alpine setting.

Our new course offers 5 days of French lessons in the morning and yoga practice in the afternoon.

The French lessons focus on improving your speaking and listening skills using interactive and fun techniques. All our intensive French courses are tailor-made to the needs of the classes and are relevant to both the students level and objectives.

About the Yoga:

Whether you’re a beginner who’s always wanted to find out what all the fuss surrounding yoga is about or you already practice yoga and want to have the time to practice daily and see some real progression, our course will be perfect for you.

Yoga can relax and unwind both your mind and your body. It’s not just about flexibility, anyone can do yoga and the benefits are huge even if you can’t twist yourself into a lotus pose! Recent research shows yoga reduces the risk of heart disease, lowers blood pressure, cuts cholesterol and reduces BMI.

Like our French lessons, the yoga practice will be adapted your needs. The yoga classes and workshops will concentrate on Vinyasa yoga, both the traditional form and Vinyasa Krama over the week.

Vinyasa means “breath-synchronized movement” and the yoga involves fluid movements similar to dancing, linked together with your breathing. The traditional Vinyasa is active and provides a light workout, whereas the Vinyasa Krama is gentler, with movements and postures being practiced more slowly.

Some of Alpine French School’s teachers are keen yogis so I asked one of our English teachers, Sarah, to tell us what her favourite posture is and why.

“I’ve been doing yoga for the last 5 years, but I’m still only really a beginner. I’m a big fan of the warrior poses. They involve a lot of concentration on your balance and really help to increase awareness of your body. On top of that they also improve your circulation and energize your entire body. I’m really into active sports such as running and cycling, so for me yoga is a way to stretch my body out and really focus my mind. It’s a great stress reliever too and can help with any tension you might have in the body”.
