Our junior summer camps are currently in full swing in Morzine.
Based at a local children’s holiday camp students can take part in the fun and interactive lessons in the morning from 9.00-12.30, with the option to take part in afternoon activities too. The afternoon activities include things like swimming at the lake, volleyball or boules tournaments and much more. Alpine French School offer lessons in both French and English from beginner to advanced.
Last week there were 4 groups running, 2 groups learning French and 2 learning English. Lessons were really good fun and learning activities included treasure hunts, singing songs, buying things at the local market, visiting and writing about the Harley Davidson festival, practicing directions by students directing their teacher around the town and A LOT of crafts! The children created videos and posters about Morzine in the summer, made creative collages about what they learnt that week, drew maps of the town and even made their own board games which the other groups played.
We asked one of the teachers Sarah how the week had been for her class:
“ My students were fantastic! They were really keen to learn even though they are on their school holidays, and I think because the way we teach them is quite different to their schools, they learn without even realizing they are! My groups loved any game practicing the vocab they had learnt, such as Pictionary style games, board games and word searches. Highlights included making our collage everyday and getting covered in glitter and dressing up in silly clothes to practice weather vocabulary!”
One of the other teachers, Annemarie, told us why she thinks the children benefit from our interactive and fun lessons:
“I think the children really enjoy speaking English, putting their grammar knowledge into practice. When they play games they forget their insecurities. Interaction between the groups is great as students can practice with native speakers in the other groups.”
We also chatted to Cecile Perugini, the mother of one the local children who attended the classes for a week.
We asked her what did her daughter Clara had enjoyed about the week:
“She really liked the activities outside. Clara said that that the teenage summer camp was great and not like school because they went outside. She especially liked searching for things (treasure hunt), going to the market and taking photos!”
