Are you looking to travel in France? The usual ways of travelling can be expensive, inflexible or inaccessible.
In 2003, Frédéric Mazella came up with the idea of trying to fill up empty seats in the millions of cars travelling on France’s roads. He went on to set up the car-sharing website Bla Bla Car, which has grown and become extremely successful in France and other countries.
Drivers can post on the site to fill free places in their car for journeys they are already taking. Passengers can request journeys and see if they can get a lift (or a Blablacar) to take them from A to B. The price is suggested by the site and there is a price-cap to ensure that the fare acts solely as a contribution to the driver’s expenses. All payments are made on the site, all users are registered and security checked.
As a passenger, you save money on your journey. Also, there is the additional advantage if you are looking to learn and practice your French that you can chat to your car-sharer during the journey.
As a driver, you get company for your journey and a contribution towards your costs. Plus again the added advantage of practising your French!
