Explore the AFS team’s highlights in Chamonix!

Chamonix attracts mountain enthusiasts, and offers exceptional haute-savoie cuisine, beautiful scenery and a busling apres and nightlife. During the winter season, we have multiple ski areas open for beginner to expert level. This valley guarantees enough exciting adventures and experiences to last a lifetime. Too much for just one post to unveil! So let’s finish this month off with some events and places to visit in the town centre.

Ideas of where to go before and after the slopes close:

The most important meal of the day is breakfast and regardless if you are staying in a hotel, a catered chalet or an AirBnB, nothing compares to French bakeries. Throughout Chamonix there are many bakeries offering classic pastries, hot sandwiches, beverages and desserts that are not only visually stunning but delicious and fuel you for the entire day.

Chez Richard (10 Rue du Dr Paccard) has a fantastic choice of treats to satisfy the hungriest person and a lovely festive environment.

Moody Coffee Roasters (195 Avenue de l’Aiguille du Midi) is the place to go for coffee connoisseurs. It also offers decaf options and a wide selection of teas and juices. Another great benefit is it is steps away from the Aiguille du Midi cable car!

Apres time:

Le Reglisse creperie located just down the street from key apres ski hubs Chambre Neuf, Elevation 1904 and Moö on Avenue Michel Croz is perfect if you are peckish. It offers both sugar and savoury crepes, price ranging from €3,50-€10,00. If crepes don’t tempt you, Gaufres kiosk is just a couple hundred metres away on Rue Whymper. Prices start from €3,50 for plain or sugar waffles.

Rue des Moulins is a street full of bars, restaurants and nightclubs that will take you from apres to late in the evening. Notable mentions: Cap Horn, Le Monchu, Cool Cats, Les Caves and Bar’d Up.

Events to see:

If you are looking for an event to see on the evening of Tuesday the 30th January, an ice hockey game between Chamonix Pioneers Vs Amiens will be taking place at 20h at the Richard Bozon Sports Centre (214 Avenue de la Plage). Tickets for adults €20, 16 years or under and students €14 and children under 8 years old €4. Tickets can be purchased online at www.pionniers-chamonix.com

2024 is a special year, as it marks the centenary of the 1st Winter Olympic Games that was held in Chamonix. Maison de la Mémoire et du Patrimoine have an exhibition from 16 December to 15 March. If you want to celebrate the 100 year anniversary of the Winter Olympics, what better way than visiting this museum (90 Rue des Moulins). Opening hours range, so check out their website for more details at www.ccvcmb.fr
