Thinking of applying for your French citizenship? Then read on…..

With Brexit happening earlier this year, most expats living in France are worried about where they will stand once Britain leaves the EU. What rights will they have? What will change? Will they be able to live and work here as they can at the moment? Will they be able to run businesses here in the same way?

One thing on many peoples’ minds is applying for French citizenship. A lengthy procedure, one of the main things you have to prove is that you are integrated and assimilated into French life. They check this in many ways, but one of these is your level of French language.

To apply for citizenship, there is a pre-requisite level B1 of French required. This is an intermediate level. To determine your level, you have to take a French test. For those of you who live in the Morzine area, this can be done in several exam centres in the area including Annecy and Chambéry.

Even If you have the required level of French, it is a good idea to prepare for the exam so you know what the exam is like which will make you calmer on the day. The TCF test comprises of a listening examination and a speaking examination.  Most of us as adults aren’t used to taking exams so it is important to put yourself in a practice examination situation to see how you cope!

Alpine French School is running courses to help people prepare for the citizenship examination. To determine which course is suitable, you need to know your current level of French. You can do this by contacting us at any time to arrange an evaluation, or pop along to our Open Day on Thursday December 15th. Watch this space for more info on that!

If your level of French isn’t currently close to B1, then you will need to take some of our general French courses to improve your level of French and then take an exam preparation course. If your level of French is close to B1, then you will only need to take an exam preparation course to fine tune your knowledge before taking the exam.

This winter, we have our first preparation course running from 10th January – 14th March (10 weeks x 1h30 per week), running every Tuesday morning from 9h-10h30. We also offer private preparation courses. Please contact us on info@alpinefrenchschool.com for more information.
